Every day more and more animals are becoming endangered. Here are ten of them and a fun fact about them!
The amount of each animal may sound large (pandas) but think about the 3 million caribou there are every year.
1.Rhinos (all of them)- they have bad eyesight and stand 5-6 feet tall
2.Giant Panda- living mostly in Soutwest Asia there are only about 1,600 left in the world
3.Tiger- no two tigers have the same stripes and most of them have more than 100
4.Beluga Whale- eating mostly tuna and harp seal, balugas weigh an average 7 tons and can live 75-100 years
5.African Elephant- these mammals are said to be endangered because there 50% less within 3 generations
6.Alligator Snapping Turtle- weighing in at an average of 220 pounds, this turtle is the largest in North America
7.Hawksbill Turtle- these turtles are endangered because they don't have enough places to nest and feed
8.Western Gorilla- these primates live in groups of 2-20 although females change groups in time for breeding
9.Green-Cheeked Parrot- this beautiful bird is threatened by poachers hurting nesting trees and being in the pet trade for a street value of $900-$1200
10.Mako Shark- in order to get the nutrients they need, mako babies eat eachother while still inside the mother's body
If you think that's sad get ready to see some more up there. We are slowly killing off lions with a poison called furadan, when the lions kill cattle, they leave, and before they come back, the cattle farmers put the furadan on the dead cattle. The lions eat it, and die.
Polar bears will be up there too. The arctic temperatures are going up, which means the ice is melting, so the polar bears can't go where they need to be.
We have the sad, sad truth for you Olsen fans. Ashley Olsen was caught wearing a vest that was made with the fur of EIGHT cayotes! EIGHT!! And Mary-Kate was wearing something made of THIRTY minks(cute, little furry animals) THIRTY minks people! When will they realize?? After there are no more cayotes and minks?? Its so sad.
There are plenty of websites you can go to where you donate to organizations that help endangered animals. You can find a couple of links at our OTHER COOL SITES page.
